Description

A fully restored Victorian slipper chair, circa 1880–1900, reupholstered in Thorp of London’s Petite Baies handprinted linen.

With its low armless form, shaped back and softly scrolled top, this chair has an elegant, easy silhouette. The small-scale Petite Baies print brings a delicate sense of pattern and charm, while the deep red House of Hackney bullion fringe adds weight, colour and a playful decorative finish.

The chair has been rebuilt using traditional upholstery techniques, with a restored internal structure incorporating webbing, stitched edge roll, hessian, wool wadding and unbleached calico. Newly fitted turned wooden bobbin legs, painted in glossy Atomic red, sit beneath the fringe - a small hidden detail chosen to echo the fabric and complete the piece.

Refined, joyful and full of character, this is a one-of-a-kind chair designed for a living room, bedroom, library, nursery or quiet reading corner.

This piece is one of a kind.

Why we love it

We love this chair for its sense of quiet theatre. The Petite Baies linen feels delicate and nostalgic, while the deep red bullion fringe gives it confidence and presence. It is sweet without being twee, playful without being silly, and considered down to the hidden Atomic red bobbin legs beneath the skirt.
